Phase 8 Hope For Venezuelan Refugees Project, Christmas 2023.- Albergue Vanessa volunteers came together to make Hallacas and share a meal and the joy of the Christmas season with Venezuelan refugees in transit, commonly known as "caminantes." Gratitude extends to our partners whose collaboration ensured our initiative could supply volunteers and coordinators with the necessary ingredients to make Hallacas, a traditional Venezuelan Christmas dish. This initiative aimed to provide a nutritious meal with the taste of their homeland and a moment of celebration for migrants escaping Venezuela's harsh realities of hunger and despair.
Amidst the preparation and sharing of this traditional meal, a reality surfaced—many of the caminantes expressed that they couldn't recall the last time they had a Hallaca. The impact of this simple act of generosity and cultural connection resonated deeply with the recipients.
The gathering took on an even more profound meaning as one of the mothers graced the occasion with a beautiful prayer filled with gratitude and hope. Her words echoed the collective spirit of resilience and unity that binds us all. This shared experience transcended the act of providing a meal; it symbolized compassion, solidarity, and the enduring human spirit during the Christmas season.
