Phase 8 Hope For Venezuelan Refugees Project Soup Meal program (period 5-6) March 9, 2024 - Hope For Venezuelan Refugees

Phase 8 Hope For Venezuelan Refugees Project Soup Meal program (period 5-6) March 9, 2024.- Every day, over 200 Venezuelans, known as walkers or 'caminantes,' embark on a long, risky journey along the road connecting Cúcuta-Pamplona-Bucaramanga. The "caminantes," driven by a fierce determination to survive, flee without a clear final destination. They leave behind their families, communities, and loved ones, or they move with the hope of reuniting with them. Their resilience and strength in the face of such adversity are remarkable.
The Hope For Venezuelan Refugees team, in collaboration with Vanessa Yurley Pelaez Bautista, Albergue Vanessa's Coordinator, and dedicated volunteers, is making a significant difference. Together, we are providing hot and nutritious meals to the refugees and migrants in transit through Pamplona, offering them a ray of hope in their challenging journey.
The scale of the refugee crisis is staggering. According to the Regional Inter-Agency Coordination Platform for Refugees and Migrants from Venezuela (R4V), more than 7.72 million refugees and migrants have left Venezuela. This mass displacement is a direct result of the political turmoil, socio-economic instability, and the ongoing humanitarian crisis, making it the largest external displacement crisis in Latin America's recent history.
The term' caminantes' was coined in 2018, a year that marked a significant increase in the migration of Venezuelans to Colombia and other Latin American countries. These 'caminantes' are individuals who, driven by a fierce determination to survive, embark on a perilous journey, primarily through land routes, in search of safety, stability, and a better future.
More than 6.5 million Venezuelan refugees and migrants are currently present in Latin America and the Caribbean, as reported by R4V. Nevertheless, numerous individuals, faced with border closures, visa prerequisites, and insufficient documentation, have opted to forego further migration to Latin American nations and are now opting to journey to Mexico to cross into the United States. Many leave without documents to cross borders. They face great risks at the hands of smugglers and traffickers.
