Phase 9 Hope For Venezuelan Refugees Project Soup Meal Program - October 2024. The last month and a half has been challenging for our team and volunteers as we faced a second strike that caused food and fuel shortages.
Our project continues to provide refugees in transit with access to the fundamental human rights of food.
This time, the farmers' and miners’ strike in Norte de Santander severely disrupted food distribution across the region, affecting both local communities and Venezuelan refugees passing through the area. Road blockades and demonstrations halted the transport of essential goods, leading to food shortages and higher prices in many towns. The strike intensified challenges for humanitarian organizations delivering food to vulnerable populations, including the refugees in transit. Known as “caminantes,” these refugees are fleeing the Maduro regime, relying on meal programs for survival as they endure the arduous journey on foot, seeking a better future for themselves and their families.
