Who said it would be easy?
Our regular food distribution was interrupted by the trucker protests across Colombia. The protests disrupted supply routes and reduced food deliveries and other products to wholesale markets. Thankfully, the situation was resolved yesterday.
Phase 9 Hope For Venezuelan Refugees Project Soup Meal Program at Albergue Vanessa in Pamplona, Colombia, September 2024.
The strike affected our weekly Hope For Venezuelan Refugees Project Soup Program at Albergue Vanessa and Fundación Hermanos Caminantes. Our provider is struggling to secure the ingredients for our chicken soup, arepas, and unprocessed brown sugar drink for the Venezuelan refugees, known as “caminantes,” who are fleeing rampant inflation, violence, extreme poverty, and severe human rights abuses under the Maduro regime. These abuses have intensified since the contested July 28, 2024, election of Edmundo González as President-Elect.
Our team continues to work with our volunteers and allies to alleviate hunger and build peace.
