Phase 8 Hope For Venezuelan Refugees, Sep 2023- The migration of Venezuelans through the Venezuelan-Colombian border has increased in the last months. Our team works with the volunteers at Albergue Vanessa in Pamplona to provide a nourishing soup meal to hungry Venezuelan refugees in transit, also known as "caminantes," fleeing from the complex humanitarian crisis in Venezuela.
The continued exodus of Venezuelan nationals searching for safety and support in neighboring countries is prevalent. The global count of Venezuelan refugees and migrants has surpassed 7.18 million, with a significant majority (6.03 million) finding refuge in Latin America and the Caribbean. Many of these individuals have endured displacement for numerous years.
According to UNHCR, the latest Refugee and Migrant Needs Analysis carried out by R4V indicates that millions of Venezuelans still cannot afford three meals a day, do not have safe and decent housing, face hurdles in accessing medical care, and are unable to work to support themselves and their families.
