Phase 7 Hope For Venezuelan Refugees Project Soup Program - Our team continues to work with the coordinators and volunteers at Punto de Apoyo Hermanos Caminantes Venezolanos y Colombianos. Together, we are alleviating hunger during a crucial time when the international cooperation suspended most of their food donations and retired its teams from the region due to the upcoming presidential elections in Colombia.
In Venezuela, poverty is an epidemic. The ENCOVI2 report found that 96% of the households are in situation of poverty, and 79% are in extreme poverty, which means in the latter case that the income received is insufficient to cover the food basket.
According to the three Joint Needs Assessments carried out by GIFMM (Colombia, RMRP 2021, 121). The recent assessments of the Food Security and Nutrition sector:
- 91% of the Venezuelan population has identified food security and nutrition as their primary overall need following the impact of COVID-19
- 73% of refugees and migrants face food insecurity.
